Wrestlers on Friday will descend upon Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines, Alliant Energy PowerHouse in Cedar Rapids, the fieldhouse at Mason City High School and Tyson Arena in Sioux City in hopes of punching a ticket to next week’s Iowa high school girls’ state wrestling tournament, Feb. 1-2 at Xtream Arena in Coralville. Here are five storylines you should watch.

Cedar Rapids Xavier junior Jack Foster was so unsatisfied with how his first season of varsity went that he devoted more time to clubs and competing in the offseason. He’s reaping the rewards now. Foster won the 126-pound title Saturday at the North Linn Lynx Invitational.

Indianola Volleyball To Take on Lewis Central in State Semifinals

Down 11-5 in Game 5, sixth-ranked Lewis Central battled all the way back and toppled No. 3 Cedar Rapids Xavier in a 2-hour, 6-minute Class 4A quarterfinal marathon (25-21, 13-25, 25-19, 22-25, 17-15) at the state volleyball tournament Monday night at Xtream Arena.

Potent but erratic for much of the match, second-rated Indianola cleaned things up late and escaped the No. 7 Wolves in a five-set Class 4A quarterfinal at the state volleyball tournament Monday night at Xtream Arena.
