TOFU Raspberry Pi native M 2 NVMe solution

Geeky Gadgets 11:26 am Raspberry Pi enthusiasts searching for a solution to use a M.2 NVMe drive with their Raspberry Pi may be interested in a new solution provided by the TOFU board. TOFU is a carrier printed circuit board for the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 and has been created for industrial applications but can also be adopted by enthusiasts looking for a “robust and complete solution on a compact footprint” to expand the functionality of their Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4. Check out the video below created by Jeff Geerling for an in-depth overview of what you can expect from the TOFU board and its functionality.

M 2 on a Raspberry Pi - the TOFU Compute Module 4 Carrier Board

March 12, 2021 Ever since the Pi 2 model B went to a 4-core processor, disk IO has often been the primary bottleneck for my Pi projects. You can use microSD cards, which aren t horrible, but. well, nevermind, they re pretty bad as a primary disk. Or you can plug in a USB 3.0 SSD and get decent speed, but you end up with a cabling mess and lose bandwidth and latency to a USB-to-SATA or USB-to-NVMe adapter. The Pi 4 actually has an x1 PCI Express gen 2.0 lane, but the USB 3.0 controller chip populates that bus on the model B. The Compute Module 4, however doesn t presume anything it exposes the PCIe lane directly to any card it plugs into.

Dual Raspberry Pi Camera StereoPi board available from $45

Geeky Gadgets 12:07 pm Raspberry Pi enthusiasts may be interested to know that the StereoPi v2 project currently running on the Crowd Supply website has raised 74% of its required pledge goals thanks to over 150 backers with still 17 days remaining. The open-source stereoscopic camera based on Raspberry Pi with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and an advanced powering system is available from $45 as the StereoPi v2 Slim, which is perfect for “DIY ninjas” or those wanting to embed StereoPi in a tight space, say its creators. This board is the same as the standard edition, but without all the bulky connectors – the Ethernet RJ45 jack, GPIO header, and dual USB Type-A connector have not been populated. To use this board, you will need your own Raspberry Pi Compute Module, cameras, and camera ribbon cables.
