A groundbreaking event was held for a new air traffic control tower at Victoria International Airport.

The proposal calls for decreased service charges averaging 5.57 per cent across its service categories.

Construction will begin next year on a new air-traffic control tower at Victoria International Airport. Nav Canada says the build will get underway in spring 2023, with construction expected to be complete by 2026. The tower will replace the existing structure, which was built in 1958.

The new tower is expected to be several metres higher that the existing tower and include a control cab with a 360-degree view of the airport and up-to-date air-traffic management, communications and aviation-surveillance systems

The organization that runs Canada’s air-traffic control network will soon have a new pilot at the controls. NAV Canada has announced that longtime executive Raymond Bohn has been appointed president and CEO effective Feb. 1. Bohn replaces former chief executive Neil Wilson, who will retire on Jan. 31.
