The St. Petersburg mayor and city leaders are again reviewing proposals to redevelop the 86-acre Tropicana Field site. Mayor Ken Welch scrapped plans from two previously chosen developers over the summer. Now, he has four groups on the table, including previous finalist Sugar Hill Community Partners and global real estate company Hines with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Friday, Dec. 2, was the deadline for developers to submit proposals to the City of St. Pete to re-develop Tropicana Field. Four proposals were submitted to design the 86 acres.

Those interested in having a hand in redeveloping the 86-acre Tropicana Field site in St. Petersburg have two extra weeks to get their proposals together after the Tampa Bay Rays requested a deadline extension following Hurricane Ian.

It’s been nearly three weeks since St. Petersburg began accepting proposals for the Tropicana Field site, and now, the future of the stadium and the surrounding land will take center stage Wednesday.

In the 1980s, St. Pete began its pursuit of baseball and had to find a place to build a stadium. They ultimately decided to build it in the Gas Plant District, dislocating hundreds of Black residents in the segregated, but thriving community. One of those residents was St. Pete Mayor Ken Welch.

The City of St. Petersburg is continuing the process of picking a developer to reshape the land Tropicana Field sits on. The city's new mayor restarted the process to select a developer earlier this summer. 

After a thousand people in St. Pete offered feedback on the future of the Tropicana Field site, the city is now reviewing the community's input.

The city of St. Petersburg held the second of three community meetings designed to get input on how the Tropicana Field site should be redeveloped.

Nearly two weeks after St. Petersburg's mayor scrapped two redevelopment proposals for Tropicana Field, the public now has its turn to weigh in on the future of the site.

After announcing plans to scrap the current redevelopment proposals for Tropicana Field, city officials announced a series of community forums to get the public's input on what could be next for the area.
