Defence stocks fall: Defence stocks cool off even as allocation rises in FY25 Interim Budget

Shares of defence-related companies declined due to profit booking after the 2024 Interim Budget speech, which raised allocations for the defence sector. The total capital outlay for defence is now Rs 6.2 lakh crore, an increase of 4.4% from the FY24 budget. The government had previously increased the defence budget by 13.8% to Rs 5.94 lakh crore in FY24. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also announced a new scheme for strengthening deep-tech technologies for defence purposes.

bond yields fall today: Bond yields slump as government cuts market borrowing plan for FY25

In the interim Budget for FY25, the government has pegged the gross and net market borrowing at Rs 14.13 lakh crore and Rs 11.75 lakh crore, respectively. Most experts had pegged the gross market borrowing to be a little over Rs 15 lakh crore. The planned borrowing for FY25 is less than that in FY24. For FY24, the government had pegged gross market borrowing at Rs 15.43 lakh crore.
