Regency Trial News Today

It is said a picture is worth a thousand words, and this photo of Gerry Hutch ringing in the new year last weekend certainly does that.

The seizure of the €157m cocaine shipment off the south coast has exposed the spoils of drug trafficking. Gardaí believe the shipment was a joint enterprise involving a number of cartels, including the Kinahan organised crime group.

Two months ago, gang leader Gerard ‘The Monk’ Hutch was acquitted of murder over the Regency Hotel attack. It was a shock verdict — but it was the Special Criminal Court’s finest hour.

The close bond between gang leader Liam Byrne and mob boss Daniel Kinahan is “wildly exaggerated” according to sources — but Byrne’s dramatic arrest in Spain last week is still a headache for the leader of the Kinahan cartel.

Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch wanted to help gardaí with their investigation into the murder of his friend Noel ‘Kingsize’ Duggan on March 23, 2016 — just weeks after the Regency Hotel attack.

Paul Murphy (61) and his co-accused Jason Bonney (52) were found guilty last month.

The two getaway drivers for the Regency Hotel murder each face up to 15 years in prison when they are sentenced by the Special Criminal Court on Friday.
