Akron-Canton Airport President and CEO Ren Camacho said Friday that the airport is closely following reports that the Biden administration is considering travel restrictions on Florida.
“Right now, Florida does not have any domestic travel restrictions,” Camacho said in a phone interview. “We are going to monitor that closely.”
Media reports from the Miami Herald to Axios online have seized on comments from unnamed administration officials that travel may be banned or limited to and from the Sunshine State because of a flare-up of a COVID-19 variant. The reports have drawn criticism from Florida officials including its governor, who has been criticized for lax coronavirus protocols.
GREEN, Ohio Spirit Airlines is adding a twice weekly flight between the Akron-Canton Airport and Myrtle Beach, S.C., starting in mid-April. The new route will be Spirit’s fourth nonstop destination from Akron-Canton. The leisure-focused carrier also flies to Orlando, Tampa and Fort Myers, Florida. JACKSON TWP. More than 100 children will receive bicycles for Christmas thanks to the efforts of Lumen Nation.
Lighting store co-owners Tom Rafferty and Davene LoVaglio decided four years ago to donate bicycles to Toys for Tots. They managed five the first year, 17 in 2018 and 31 last year. They hoped to collect 50 this year but ended up with 103.
LoVaglio said the drive started earlier this year, which might be a factor in the increased donations. The store worked with the Stark & East Central Ohio Building Industry Association, as well as customers and others to help Toys for Tots. It was a huge collaboration between clients and friends, LoVaglio said.
American, United airlines resuming Washington, D.C. service from Cleveland, Akron airports in time for new president

CLEVELAND, Ohio Northeast Ohioans who regularly travel to the nation’s capital have two new ways to get there.
American Airlines plans to restart daily service between Cleveland Hopkins and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in early 2021 – just ahead of the presidential inauguration.
And at the Akron-Canton Airport, United Airlines this week finally launched long-planned service to Washington Dulles International Airport. The United service was initially scheduled to start in May, but was pushed back because of the dramatic decline in air travel related to the coronavirus pandemic.
