severalability clause. i ve had a debate with a number of professors on my blog about whether if the individual mandate goes down the entire blog goes down. the individual mandate is the thumping part of this bill. it s incredibly important to the scheme of the bill. usually, courts will try to minimize the impact of rulings of unconstitutionality. my guess is other parts of this bill kol survive. but i think for people that support this bill, the loss of the individual mandate would be a really horrific event. now, they also are looking at a possibility of a preliminary injunction. many of these cases are likely to ask the court to enjoin the law. now, that could be a real problem if they got it. because that unjunction could lost all the way past midterm elections, potentially. and this would be not be enforced until a very powerful repeal movement to move in. this has a mix of legal and political issues that could be interesting to watch.
repeal movement in the history of this country. you know that s actually not going to happen. if you hate health reform and someone asks you for money because they say they re going to repeal health reform, that person is ripping you off. they really can t repeal it. i mean, some republicans are even admitting that now. what you have to do is be politically honest. if the republicans win a majority in the house and senate next year, they will not be able to repeal the bill, the president would veto it. we should replace it with solutions that would work. obviously the president will not sign a repeal bill that the congress passes, so that s more of a symbol. sure, that s more of a symbol. republican senator bob corker of tennessee got even more blunt about it today, telling an audience at vanderbilt university, quote, that s not going to happen, okay? okay. despite the impossibility
