A team of NASA scientists is preparing for the final phase of the OSIRIS-REx mission as it will be returning to Earth on September 24.

Scientists with NASA's OSIRIS-REx mission are confident that the planned Sept. 24 asteroid sample landing will go as planned.

Asteroid Benny has a higher chance of striking the Earth than you finding a four-leaf clover. Heres how scientists plan to deflect it.

A spacecraft that has travelled more than 950 million kilometres is dropping off a care package on Sunday: samples from an asteroid that lies more than 100 million kilometres from Earth.

After a seven-year journey to the asteroid Bennu and back to Earth, NASA's OSIRIS-REx spacecraft is weeks away from dropping off its precious cargo, sending its capsule with bits of asteroid flying through Earth's atmosphere to land in the remote desert of Utah.

NASAs OSIRIS-REx mission is preparing to return to Earth on September 24 with the first-ever US asteroid sample. The spacecraft will deliver an estimated 8.8 ounces of material collected from the surface of asteroid Bennu. The capsule is scheduled to land in a Utah desert, but the trajectory and velocity must be precise to prevent the samples from being lost in space or burning up in Earths atmosphere.

The material was first collected in space nearly three years ago from Bennu, an asteroid scientists discovered in 1999.

NASA is in the final stages of preparation to send its first sample of asteroid material collected in space down to Earth. The material was collected by…

Washington: A team of NASA scientists is preparing for the final phase of the OSIRIS-REx mission as it will be returning to Earth on September 24 with the first-ever US asteroid sample. OSIRIS-REx (Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, and Security-Regolith Explorer), the first US mission to collect a sample from an asteroid, will return with material from asteroid Bennu.
