NASA's OSIRIS-REx mission is preparing to return to Earth on September 24 with the first-ever US asteroid sample. The spacecraft will deliver an estimated 8.8 ounces of material collected from the surface of asteroid Bennu. The capsule is scheduled to land in a Utah desert, but the trajectory and velocity must be precise to prevent the samples from being lost in space or burning up in Earth's atmosphere.
