Former NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton slammed the New York City Council for anti-police sentiment that's meant a drop in the number of cops, including units that specialize in counterterrorism.

Officers in the NYPD counterterrorism unit could face cutbacks and loose up to 75percent of its current staff. Right now, there are 300 cops assigned to this unit, and 240 could be re-located.

Of the unit’s 300 cops assigned to the unit — part of the NYPD’s Counterterrorism Bureau — the department is mulling moving 240 of them back to street-level patrol, staffing other commands, including the new 116th precinct in Queens, set to open next spring, sources have said.
