Safe Space Chico moved its intake center to the Our Hands sculpture Friday evening after the city fined its landlord.

A Dec. 29 appeal for zoning clearance, that would allow Safe Space Winter Shelter to shuttle guests to its overnight shelters from downtown Chico, was denied Wednesday in a letter to the nonprofit's leadership from City Manager Mark Sorensen.

With no alternatives available, the organization will keep using the former convenience store site despite a code violation notice.
