In a historic first for the university, California Faculty Association members at Cal Poly Humboldt began their weeklong strike Monday. A few dozen supporters picketed at entrances to the campus in red, marching across crosswalks with signs on the surprisingly sunny morning.
In a room in Founders Hall, California Faculty Association members and their supporters were making signs for next week’s picket line. The planned strike would be a historic first faculty strike in the history of Cal Poly Humboldt, and the newness was tangible.
Officials hope to double enrollment at Cal Poly Humboldt by 2027. Plans to reserve all on-campus housing for first-years were scaled back last week after current students staged protests – but some returning students may still end up living in hotels or even on a barge.
