Going into Monday night’s district semifinal at The Sports Complex, there was one name on the mind of every Bulldog.
Moberly’s Grace Billington has a habit of taking over games. In December she toyed with Warrenton to the tune of 43 points. Less than two weeks ago, she scorched Mexico for 32 and forced the game into overtime.
“If we shut her down, that gives us an edge,” Mexico forward Mya Miller said.

The first four minutes of Thursday night’s clash at Capital City were slow, but the pace soon turned to Mexico’s liking as the Bulldogs closed out the regular season with a convincing 61-39 win.
Both sides combined for five trips to the line early in the opening period. When Mya Miller snaked her way to the rim midway through the quarter for only the game’s third basket from the field, however, things began to change.
For a moment the teams traded blows. The Cavaliers’ Kambry Pistel hit from three, Miller answered with another layup, Riley Blevis sank one from deep, but Capital City’s Natalie Allison followed suit.

The Bulldogs were in serious trouble with time winding down on Friday night at Marshall.
Since the started of the second quarter nothing had gone right. Down by 8 with four minutes to play in the game, Mexico looked to be on the way to their fourth loss of the season.
But in stepped Jordyn Thurman. The freshman guard drained a three that not only narrowed the gap, but also sparked a Bulldogs rally.
“That catapulted us,” said head coach Ed Costley.
Fired up, Mexico went on to claim a 49-43 come from behind victory to go 15-3 for the season.

Riley Thurman and Mya Miller set a goal for themselves as a tandem before the start of Friday night’s game at Kirksville: they would combine to score 30 points.
They didn’t. Instead, Miller recorded 19 and Thurman 12 – 31 points – as Mexico downed the Tigers 39-28.
“Riley just had fast break after fast break,” Alexis Willer said.
Most of these came in a fast paced spell that began midway through the second quarter and continued well into the third. Miller, Thurman and the rest of coach Ed Costley’s squad trampled Kirksville 19-0 over that stretch.
