Rex Heuermann, the accused Gilgo Beach killer, has been confined to a cramped, windowless cell at the Riverhead Jail ever since his arrest, awaiting trial.

A sheriff who oversees Riverhead Jail (right) said they have very good information that Heuermann (left) would be a target of violence if he were not in solitary confinement.

The investigation resulted in five civilian visitors and three inmates being charged with 25 felonies and 12 misdemeanors.
