UK Government Invests £650 million in Fusion Projects

A collaboration between the UK Atomic Energy Authority, Dell Technologies, Intel and the University of Cambridge will explore how supercomputers and artificial intelligence technologies with advanced predictive capabilities can deliver a 'digital twin' of the UK's prototype fusion power plant design.

Together with Cambridge University, Intel and Dell, the agency is working on virtual systems to accelerate the development of fusion power

The technology will allow computational resources and AI to streamline delivery of fusion energy to the grid in the 2040s.

The UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) and the University of Cambridge have joined forces with Dell Technologies and Intel to accelerate pace of fusion energy power plant development.

The UK Atomic Energy Authority, in collaboration with industry partners, is launching a virtual prototype project for a nuclear fusion plant.

“Modelling the hugely complex, strongly coupled, multi-physics system that is a fusion powerplant is undeniably a simulation grand challenge – an endeavour that has long been heralded an exascale challenge. Click to read more...
