Mazariegos and her team’s ability to stay in character, as she referred to it, helped the College earn the Outstanding Delegation award.

Gilbert is just the third College of Idaho student to be awarded a Fulbright Scholarship, which dates back to 1946.

The two groups – nine College of Idaho students and four Naresuan students – met online throughout the Fall term to prepare. The Naresuan students even joined one of Dr. Dayley’s classes online very early in the morning (in Thailand) in anticipation of the conference.

During 2009, Dayley sketched out a “New Core”; here the innovative one major and three minor construct gestated. New President Marv Henberg was an enthusiastic supporter. The acronym followed: Professional, Ethical, Articulate and Knowledgeable

Truksa found out his essay had won just a few weeks before the conference and he was able to attend to receive his award, give a presentation on the topic, and spend time around people with similar interests.

The Fulbright Specialist Program is run by the U.S. Department of State and is a unique opportunity for U.S. academics and established professionals to engage in two- to six-week, project-based exchanges at host institutions across the globe.
