Surfside Beach leaders are looking toward a temporary plan to keep the towns fire department instead of selling it to Horry County.

Surfside SC council members heard a presentation from Horry County officials about how they could make the town’s fire department viable and safe if the town turned the department over to the county.

Surfside Beach leaders plan to use an independent panel to do an inquiry into the police departments turnover rate. The decisions comes after the chief of police resigned.

The resignation comes after The Sun News published a story earlier Tuesday about an investigation that could be a referendum on the town’s police chief.
