A Pinehurst man took home more than $400,000 after winning a prize from a $30 scratch-off ticket.
Robert Grimone won a $1 million prize after purchasing a $10,000,000 Colossal Cash ticket from the Circle K on Beverly Lane in Southern Pines, according to a statement released by the N.C. Education Lottery.
Grimone could have taken the $1 million as an annuity of $50,000 a year over 20 years, but decided instead to take a lump sum of $600,000, the statement said. He took home $424,509 after required federal and state taxes, it said.
The lottery’s website does not say what the odds are of winning $1 million from the Colossal Cash game, but says the chances of winning change as prizes are won. Four of the 20 $1 million prizes and two of the five $10 million prizes remain, it says.
