back to him. we ll watch his epic fail a bit later on in the show. first, let s get to the news live at 5:30 a.m. here at 30 rock in new york city. there are new questions and proposals about the future of the war in afghanistan as the united states preparing for its initial troop drawdown next month. defense secretary robert gates says the united states should maintain a long-term military presence in the country as a, quote, tenant on joint u.s./afghan bases. in an interview with an afghan newspaper, gates argues against permanent american bases and pushes for troops to give training on shared ones after the u.s. combat mission ends. gates comments come after senate foreign relations chair john kerry spoke yesterday about the long-term approach in afghanistan, referring to the findings of a recent committee report on nation-building in afghanistan. kerry criticized the u.s. s handling of the aid to the region. virginia senator jim webb went a step further, questioning

[ inaudible ] they say they just learned last thursday that the priest had followed a 17-year-old boy, who was a member of the church, into the dressing room of a department store on april 19th. the boy s father called the police, who determined there was no criminal activity. the archdiocese says priests are not allowed to be with a child alone. the archdiocese also says over the last 11 years, there have been no charges or allegations against father williams. he came the pastor of st. raymond last year. the bishop says the priest admitted to them he has a sexual addiction. the archdiocese says it has also learned that when father william was or doned in stockton, he had undergone two years of therapy. the therapy was because he was battling with sexual addiction. reporter: parishioners we talked to are upset. the d
