BATON ROUGE - Robert McGarner, the retired BRPD deputy chief who was put in charge of security at the East Baton Rouge School System earlier this year, abruptly left the job this month. 

The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board is proceeding with a plan to hire more armed school resource officers in the upcoming school year.

Just one state away in Uvalde, Texas, a school shooting stunned the nation leaving 19 children and two adults dead. It is now the second deadliest school shooting in American history. 

BATON ROUGE - Police cars and extra security were seen throughout the parking lot of McKinley High School Thursday morning after a huge fight Wednesday that involved both students and parents.

Retired BRPD Deputy Chief Robert McGarner has been named the new head of security for the East Baton Rouge Parish School System.

The district introduced retired Deputy Police Chief Robert McGarner as the new Director of School Security on Thursday.
