Maine School Administrative District 49 is moving forward with plans to consolidate elementary students at one location, but the proposal would result in the closure of Albion's lone school.

With the increase in COVID-19 cases despite using the same guidelines as last year, school districts are seeing large increases in the number of positive cases from just the first few months of school.

Tim Martin and his family recently collected the food baskets for local families and delivered them to the schools for distribution.

Last spring the MDOE published a final priority list of 74 schools, among which Fairfield was ranked No. 1, Clinton Elementary School as 39, and Albion Elementary School as 58.

As many students return to public-school classrooms this coming week, district officials have more leeway than last year in their pandemic protocols, leading to differing precautions for COVID-19.
