Like many, I miss Robert [Eades]. He was a man who became a voice for the voiceless. Often, he would attend Annapolis City Council meetings and speak out forcefully on the issues that adversely impacted the community.

Many Americans are unaware that the Aug. 28, 1963, March on Washington occurred on the anniversary of the 1955 murder of Emmett Till. At that rally Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

The Caucus of African American Leaders, in partnership with the Anne Arundel County Public Schools, has for the last three years been honoring young people at its monthly meetings. These youth are often not seen in the media.

In April, the city of Annapolis, Md., received word that the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) would finally award a $3 million grant to help pay for a proposed stormwater pump on Compromise Street in the Maryland capital to address flooding and other climate-related impacts.

A flood mitigation pump at Compromise Street, a new public works facility and a park honoring a local civil rights activist, are among the capital projects budget for fiscal year 2022.
