Highway 166 remains closed Thursday night, following reports of a vehicle fire.

 Highway 166 was closed Thursday night due to a fire in the New Cuyama area. As of 9:04 p.m., the Los Padres National Forest was reporting the fire to be about 20 acres in size.

Fire crews with Los Padres National Forest have fully contained a vegetation fire at 17 acres with on-site fire personnel remaining in the area to cleat up pockets of heat.

The Gifford Fire along Highway 166 halfway between Highway 101 and Cuyama is 100% contained, officials said.

One person is dead and one other has been airlifted by helicopter to a hospital in Santa Barbara County following a car accident on Highway 166 Friday morning, according to Santa Barbara County Fire.
