CHEYENNE – More than two dozen members of Cheyenne Fire Rescue were recognized for their accomplishments at CFR’s annual awards and promotion ceremony on Thursday.

“My father lost his life,” Leah Schatzke, the victim’s daughter, wrote in a victim impact statement. “Chris Thompson gets to spend the rest of his life acting like nothing happened.”

Jason Schatzke, treasurer of the Red River Valley Sugarbeet Growers Association, died in a car crash Saturday, Nov. 12. The driver of the vehicle, Christopher Thompson, is charged with two felony counts of injury or death resulting from driving under the influence.
