The Centre is hopeful of a major change in India's IT hardware landscape, similar to what is being seen in the smartphone sector. Apple Inc is absent from the list but the government is hopeful of the tech giant’s participation in the near future

PLI Scheme: "We have received 58 applications for IT hardware PLI so far, from both global and local companies," said Alkesh Kumar Sharma, secretary, ministry of electronics and information technology.

Industry executives say that while the government has been successful in restricting Chinese players Huawei and ZTE from participating in India’s 5G rollout after adoption of the “trusted sources” approach, replicating the same for IT hardware won’t be feasible. That’s because unlike telecom equipment, laptops/tablets are consumer devices.

Pcs: In a meeting with senior ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) officials on Tuesday, executives of companies like Apple, Dell, HP, Acer and others said they would need this time to set up manufacturing facilities in India.

The Centre has made a licence mandatory to import certain electronic devices. The move is being seen as at attempt to plug in-built security loopholes that may possibly endanger sensitive personal and enterprise data

Pli Scheme: IT hardware companies have been told about the licensing portal where it takes five to 10 minutes to get approval for an import licence, this official said.

PLI: The centre notified the second phase of the production-linked incentive scheme for IT hardware on May 14 with a budgetary outlay of Rs 17,000 crore, more than doubling the incentives in the initial version of the plan.

PLI beneficiaries are required to use firmware for servers from Indian sources or other trusted foreign sources as certified by MeitY

The subsidy will ensure availability of fertilisers to farmers at subsidised, affordable and reasonable prices, said Minister of Chemicals and Fertilisers Mansukh Mandaviya

The cabinet is also believed to have sanctioned a subsidy reduction for DAP (Diammonium Phosphate) and MOP (Muriate of Potash) fertilisers
