“I can remember the day I was born” and thus begins the life story of Jim Dick. James Elmer Dick was born April 27, 1930, to Lawrence and Ruby (Hallquist) Dick on a farm near Englevale, ND. A storyteller like his father and immigrant grandmother, Jim enjoyed telling the story he heard so often about his grandma Mary running across the field to her son’s farmhouse, apron strings fluttering in the wind, to deliver her grandson Jim that fine spring morning.
