The Pakistani rupee continued to depreciate against the United States (US) dollar in the interbank market amid a delay in IMF deal

Taking a jibe at Nirmala Sitharaman over her statement that Indian currency is not sliding but the dollar is strengthening, the Congress said that the Finance Minister qualifies for a PhD in Economics.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 81.90 against the greenback, then fell to 81.93

Rupee slipped further from the past week`s low and hit another lifetime low on Monday morning.

At end of trading on September 22, the rupee closed at 80.86 against the US dollar, its lowest ever, and about 7 per cent lower than in January. By the time you read this, it might well have breached 81.

Pakistani rupee maintained its downward trend for eighth consecutive working day, as it fell against the US dollar in the interbank market.

The US dollar on Wednesday continued its upward trajectory against rupee despite receiving a loan tranche of US$1.16 billion from the IMF.

The domestic unit finally settled at 79.93, down 7 paise over its previous close of 79.86.

The US dollar on Tuesday reached all-time high against rupee in interbank as Pakistan continues to witness political instability.

The value of the rupee declined from 63.33 against a dollar on December 31, 2014, to 79.41 on July 11, 2022, FM Sitharaman said quoting RBI data.
