Ryan Connon, a hydrologist with the Environment and Climate Change, said that also means an elevated risk of high water at breakup this year for the Peel River.

A drop in water levels in the southern N.W.T. is causing hydro generators to produce less electricity for Yellowknife and its surrounding area. Diesel generators are being used more to meet the demand.

Hot temperatures with little rain is causing water levels to drop on the Mackenzie River, according to an N.W.T. hydrologist. 

Impressive amounts of water normally rush over Alexandra Falls and Louise Falls in the N.W.T. But amid hot and dry conditions, these majestic waterfalls look nothing like they do at their full force.

Water levels on the Hay River have started rising slightly, the town said in a public notice late Friday afternoon. Ice is starting to build up a bit near Mile 5 and between Smith Trail and Delancey Estates.

As floodwaters rise from the Hay River, a territorial hydrologist says gauges in the Hay River and its tributaries are registering at the highest levels ever recorded. Ice, water levels and precipitation all converged, says Anna Coles.
