Chip Wullbrandt
Wullbrandt reportedly submitted his resignation late last week, ending his gig as city attorney days before Monday’s special meeting of the Solvang City Council. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Monday.
That meeting, called by new Mayor Charlie Uhrig at the end of Dec. 14 meeting, has two items set to be discussed in closed session as allowed by the Ralph M. Brown (Open Meetings) Act.
The first item identifies public employee discipline, dismissal or release of the city attorney.
A second item involves public employee appointment and identifies the position as the city attorney.

On the West Coast, many restaurants also open their doors to customers despite state orders to the contrary.
“While some of the larger chains and corporations are following the orders, many of the mom and pop shops say going to takeout only would put them out of business,” ABC News reported last week.
The city council in Solvang, a tourism-fueled community in Santa Barbara County, recently voted to ignore shutdown orders that threaten locals’ livelihoods. Officials “directed that the City of Solvang will not actively enforce these latest State shutdown orders, and that the City request the County and State regulators to prioritize education and that they also not enforce the orders within the City limits,” according to a letter from Mayor Ryan Toussaint.

Last week, the Solvang City Council voted 5-0 during an emergency meeting to not abide by the governor’s stay-at-home order. The council vote called for city staff to preserve outdoor dining by repurposing seating outside restaurants as spaces for public use.
The outgoing council also called for maintaining other measures that have allowed businesses to stay open while operating safely. Additionally, the council voted in support of Santa Barbara County potentially leaving the Southern California region and, along with San Luis Obispo and Ventura counties, creating a Central Coast region.

Three new members joined the Solvang City Council on Monday night and wasted no time in making changes by sporting masks on the dais, setting a meeting to discuss the city attorney’s contract and criticizing the prior panel’s mixed message regarding public health orders.
