As I write this, my country is battling a new and brutal wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. The rise in the number of infections poses a serious challenge to our brave doctors, nurses, other care providers, citizen volunteers and the entire health service system.
Nepal’s history is one of hardship and struggle, yet this pandemic is pushing even us to our limits. The number of infections is straining the healthcare system; it has become tough to provide patients with the hospital beds that they need.

Kathmandu, April 1
This weekend, the United States President Joe Biden invited 40 leaders from across the world to attend a Leaders Summit on Climate scheduled for April 22-23.
Whereas three leaders of South Asia–Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina (Bangladesh), Prime Minister Lotay Tshering (Bhutan), Prime Minister Narendra Modi (India)–and President Xi Jinping (China) have made it to the list, Nepal has not been invited.
Onlinekhabar has talked to Anna Richey-Allen, the spokesperson of the US Embassy in Kathmandu about the issue.
In response, she said only ‘major economies’ were invited to the summit.
Richey-Allen said, “The summit is only one of several major climate-related events in the run-up to COP-26, which will be a global event. Its primary objective is to encourage the world’s major economies to enhance ambition to keep the goal of limiting warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius within reach. ”
