Xiaomi began allowing consumers to place orders for its SU7 electric vehicle sedan on Thursday, after it announced the prices of the car which started at $29,870. On Friday night, it said pre-orders hit 88,898 in the first 24 hours.

Xiomi EVs: The launch fulfills an ambition of Xiaomis CEO and founder Lei Jun, who announced the companys foray into EVs in 2021. He pledged to invest USD 10 billion in Xiaomis auto business, describing it as "the last major entrepreneurship project" of his life.

Global technology brand Xiaomi on Thursday announced its entry into the automotive industry by unveiling its long-awaited first electric vehicle.

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi Corp said on Tuesday it had dismissed three employees for spreading rumours, seriously misleading the market and interrupting the normal operation of Xiaomi cars.

Xiaomi EV: Both models bore a "MI" logo in the front and carried the "Xiaomi" name on their rear, pictures published on the Ministry of Industry and Informations (MIIT) website showed.
