Portions of south Salinas were evacuated after fire crews responded to a fire at Taylor Farms. The fire had a potential for explosion.

“The fire progressed to the point that it poses a significant risk for a potential explosion of ammonia that is located in the plant,” Sam Klemek, the city of Salinas’ deputy fire chief, said in a statement.
