Three years have passed since Howth Yacht Club has been able to make a thorough-going job of hosting its annual winter-time Achievers Awards ceremony

Summer in North Dakota means it's time to get outside and enjoy all the outdoor activities that Bismarck and Mandan have to offer -- like car shows, walks downtown, and plenty of sports to attend. But of the many events in town, very few are as well-known-or as massive- as the yearly McQuade's Softball Tournament -- originally founded by Sam McQuade Sr. of McQuade Distributing Co., as part of his attempts to give back to the Bismarck-Mandan community.

The 48th Annual Sam McQuade Charity Softball Tournament is scheduled this weekend in Bismarck-Mandan. It is the world’s largest slowpitch softball tournament, with over 400 teams in 14 divisions expected.

There are over 400 teams playing in this year's tournament. Mike Wolf says a team from Guam has found their way back to the 701 to participate for a second year. New this year is a game played at the North Dakota State Penitentiary in Bismarck.

Traffic control on Bismarck Expressway between Washington Street and Ninth Street will be removed before the start of this years Sam McQuade Sr. Charity Softball Tournament.
