​​The fraud was taking place since long and came to light following a complaint lodged with Srinagar police station in Maharashtras Thane city of hacking of the payment gateway account of the company here in April 2023 and Rs 25 crore being siphoned off, an official from Naupada police station said.

When the police conducted a probe into it, a mega fraud worth over Rs 16,180 crore came to light, the official said quoting the FIR.

The police suspect there may be many players in this mega racket, which has been going on since long, and may have pan India ramifications affecting several companies and individuals, the official said.

The accused are booked under sections 420, 409, 467, 468, 120(B), 34 of the Indian Penal Code, and 66(C) and 66(D) of the Information Technology Act

As many as 260 bank accounts were found linked to these illegally formed partnership firms and transactions worth Rs 16,180 crore were seen being carried out between these accounts.
