An Effective Liquor Law A provision of the Excise Law gives to the wives of men addicted to drink the right to warn liquor dealers not to sell to their husbands, after which warning damages of $50 can be collected from those who disregard it. Thursday the first notice of this kind was served in Queens county on sixteen saloon keepers, by Justice Lawrence, on complaint of Mrs. Jones, of Flushing.

BROOKLINE, MA Each year the town holds annual elections on the first Tuesday in May. This year s election will be held May 4.
There are several contested races to watch, including a two-way race for Town Moderator. Five people are vying to fill two open seats on the Select Board, and there s also a two-way race for an open seat on the School Committee. All but three of Brookline s 16 precincts have races for Town Meeting members. There are also two ballot questions this year.

BROOKLINE, MA If you re thinking about running for office in Brookline, you have until March 12 to take out and return nomination papers for the May 4 town election, according to the town clerk s office. So far, 18 people have declared an interest in running for townwide office.
There have been 83 people have taken out papers indicating they want to run to represent their precinct as a Brookline Town Meeting member. But no one has yet stepped up to run for the office of Town Clerk.
