Well, two blocks away, there was a house fire at 8 00 last night. That was on alabama street. Now, no one was home at the time. So nobody was injured. And firefighters were able to get that out once neighbors alerted them to that fire. But that fire is also suspicious. Firefighters dont know the cause of either of these fires. Smoke forced several San Francisco residents out of their home early this morning. Firefighters say a wall heater may have sparked the fire at this noe street complex just before 2 00. Nobody injured, most of the damage was caused by smoke and water. New this morning a suspected drunk driver behind bars this morning after a wild overnight chase. Two picket lines in oakland one at the port one at Oakland International airport, more than 200 workers with the local Service Employees International Union are on a 24hour strike upset that port executives want to cut wages and benefits and cant come to an agreement with the union. We have been without a contract over 16 months, thats not right. Reporter they shut down the port to make a statement to the executives. They havent been honest, they havent been negotiating in good faith. Reporter by the middle of the day no one was able to get in or out of the terminal. Picketers covered all gates. On a typical day, the port loads about 10,000 trucks. Many drivers were upset to lose a days pay. None of us can make a living today. This is how we make our living, by pulling our freight out of here and delivering it to the customers. Im losing 600. Walkouts are planned at 8 sutter hospitals and two operated by the Hospital Corporation of america in san jose. The strike by thousands of nurses is scheduled to begin at 7 a. M. Key issues include Staffing Levels and sick leave. 4 31 now. A priest at a San Jose Catholic School has resigned after defending a registered sex offenders presence on their campus. Mark gurries was volunteering last month when someone recognized him. But gurries produced a letter from the San Jose Diocese saying he could be there. And that claim was defended by the parish priest. But it turns out the letter wasnt written or signed by the proper Church Officials and gurries was escorted off campus. Now, the bishop in charge of the diocese has apologized and tells parishioners it will not happen again. A search continues in san jose for a suspect police say was involved in a crime spree that included a fatal shooting. It began on friday night with four armed robberies. One of the suspects ap
