Following the January 5 Sandeshkhali incident in which ED officials were attacked by a mob during the search operations, a large number of central armed police force personnel accompanied the ED team during Thursday’s searches.

On January 5, ED officers and central forces were attacked by a mob when they went to the house of Shahjahan Sheikh, a TMC Zila Parishad member from Ajunjipara, in connection with the agency’s investigation into alleged irregularities in West Bengal’s public distribution system (PDS).

The Enforcement Directorate in West Bengal has raised concerns over attacks on its teams, stating that the state police registered an FIR under bailable and non-scheduled offences in the Sandeshkhali incident and has not provided a copy of the complaint. The agency claims that a similar incident occurred on January 5 during the arrest of TMC leader Shankar Adhya, and an FIR has been filed in both incidents.
