The Bemidji City Council was presented with an opportunity to support a 39-unit affordable housing project during its work session on Monday, with a request that the city be the grant applicant.

Bemidji has a severe housing shortage, and fixing it will require changing the narrative around housing and how it's approached.

Just over a month after 47 residents were displaced from Red Pine Estates, the city and volunteers look back on the events and what can be done to prevent future crises and improve future responses.

The Beltrami County Board of Commissioners heard an update on the displaced residents of Red Pine Estates, alongside other business during its Tuesday meeting.

The Bemidji City Council held a public hearing on the city’s rental code during its Monday meeting, after it paused the process to amend the code to allow for more community input.

Kyle Matthew Hennum, 29, of Bemidji, MN died unexpectedly on December 8th, 2022 at home. He passed peacefully in his sleep from a heart condition. It is reported he died from an enlarged heart and everyone who knew Kyle would have to agree that his heart was indeed huge.

Bemidji’s Village of Hope, an emergency shelter for families, flooded on Friday, Dec. 9, leading to extensive damage. The organization is now urgently seeking donations.

Three incumbents and two newcomers won seats on the Beltrami County Board in unofficial results of the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 8. Craig Gaasvig, Richard Anderson and Tim Sumner all were reelected, while newcomers Joe Gould and John Carlson also earned victories.

Two candidates are running to represent District 5 on the Beltrami County Board of Commissioners, Sandy Hennum and John Carlson.

Beltrami County District 5 candidate Sandy Hennum will hold a campaign at 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 12 at North Country Park in Bemidji.
