September is election season for many Sydney councils, but the mayors could spend less than a year in the job ahead of the state-wide local council elections this time next year.

Sandhya Reddy, a Telugu woman from Telangana with roots in Hyderabad, has been elected as the deputy mayor of Strathfield Council in Sydney, Australia. This is a significant achievement for the Indian-Australian community, as it is the first time an Indian-Australian has held this position.
