Nine Sumter residents among latest COVID deaths

Nine Sumter County residents previously diagnosed with COVID-19 were among the latest reported deaths, according to the Florida Department of Health.

Area COVID case count rises by 208

More than 200 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported in Lake and Sumter counties, according to the Florida Department of Health.

DOH reports nearly 700 area cases of COVID-19, revises death toll

No deaths were reported in that span; in fact, the DOH adjusted the area death toll, removing seven deaths from Lake County’s total and one from Sumter. The adjustments lowered the number of area deaths attributed to COVID-19 to 555 386 in Lake County and 169 in Sumter. Details about local fatalities and reasons for the recent adjustments were not immediately available and DOH offices in Tallahassee and in Lake County did not respond to emails seeking information. A combined total of 681 new confirmed cases of the potentially deadly coronavirus were reported in and Lake and Sumter counties in Friday, Saturday and Sunday’s update 536 in Lake County and 145 in Sumter. On Sunday, there were 238 confirmed cases, including 194 in Lake and 44 in Sumter County.

1 death, 160 area COVID cases in latest update

The fatality raised the area death toll related to COVID-19 to 556 387 in Lake County and 169 in Sumter.  Details about recent local deaths were not immediately available, due to a recent change by the DOH in the way it reports fatalities on its website. DOH offices in Tallahassee and in Lake County did not respond to emails seeking information. A combined total of 160 new confirmed cases of the potentially deadly coronavirus were reported in and Lake and Sumter counties in Monday’s update 133 in Lake County and 27 in Sumter. Since March, when the DOH began issuing daily updates on the spread and impact of COVID-19, Lake has reported 20,797 cases and officials in Sumter County have confirmed 6,777 cases. 

Three area residents die after COVID diagnosis

The deaths one in Lake County and two in Sumter raise the area’s death toll related to COVID-19 to 460, including 336 in Lake County and 124 in Sumter. Details about the local fatalities were not immediately available due to the state’s recent transition to a new method of reporting deaths on the DOH website. DOH offices in Tallahassee and in Lake County have not responded to emails seeking information. In addition, 270 new confirmed cases of the potentially deadly coronavirus were reported Tuesday in Lake and Sumter counties 191 in Lake County and 79 in Sumter. Since March, when the DOH began issuing daily updates on the spread and impact of COVID-19, Lake has reported 18,333 cases and officials in Sumter County have confirmed 6,108 cases.
