The Detroit Department of Transportation bus drivers will see an immediate $3 per hour wage increase under a new memorandum of understanding between the city and Amalgamated Transit Union Local 26.

More money will hopefully lead to more drivers. The city is aiming to hire 200 more drivers by the end of the year.

The City of Detroit announced on Thursday that Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) bus drivers will see an immediate $3 per hour raise.

Tyrone Zellars says he catches the DDOT bus every single day to work, church, the supermarket, and doctors appointments.

City and union officials hope attendance bonuses will help retain existing drivers, recruit new drivers and improve conditions for passengers.
