Weve learned this is not just one fire, but a combination of six fires that started shortly before 2 00 this afternoon. So far 138 acres have burned along calaveras and felter roads. Right now the fire is 40 contained and it is not burning in a heavily populated area and no buildings have burned. The fire is near Calaveras Reservoir and calaveras road is now closed and this afternoon cal fire made air drops and we saw a lot of pink retardant covering many of the roads. Crews are also using dozers and other equipment to help them cut fire lines in this area which has very steep terrain. Weve also seen a lot of water tanker trucks heading to the fire which is a remote area. Now fortunately right now the winds are mild. So again, heat, steep terrain. Thesethe firefighters right now. Where is the going going . Somewhere behind all of that fog. Well see a lot more cloud cover today. Were going to be running a few degrees cooler. The reason for that, we have a system, a trough off in the Pacific Northwest that is keeping our temperatures slightly below seasonable for today but its still warm through the inland areas.
