The 17-year-olds will head off together to Harvard University in the fall to pursue science degrees. And yet they are also looking forward to their own individual promising futures.

With the trial of a police officer charged with the killing of George Floyd in Minnesota and recent attacks on Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders in mind, Medford s Human Rights Commission hosted a video-conference community forum on race on April 7, a follow-up to one held last June.
“Much of what goes on around the country has filtered down to Medford,” Director of Diversity and Human Resources Neil Osborne said, partly in reference to bigotry directed at AAPI as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic originating in China. “In the middle of the pandemic things have changed, but, unfortunately, racism is a constant. This is an important conversation we need to have. It may be uncomfortable. It’s not meant to be uncomfortable but part of this experiment is hearing the experiences of your neighbor.”
