Second Rough News Today

"Comparatively little of the attention around news and AI has focused on its impact on the future economic viability of our industry, and 2024 seems likely to be the year in which this changes."

When news breaks, The Messenger polls a group of about 80 experienced observers (“from the worlds of politics, policy, law, history, academia and media”) it has assembled — quite consciously from across the political spectrum — and asks them to quickly rank the news on a scale of 1 to 10.

Last month, the Texas Observer, a nonprofit magazine with a distinguished history, most notably including the work of Molly Ivins and Ronnie Dugger, had a near-death experience. Its board suspended publication before reversing itself in the face of a GoFundMe campaign.
