Health benefits of almonds: Snacking on almonds can be recommended to occasional exercisers as a go-to food to help fitness recovery after strenuous exercise, suggests a new study. Naturally nutritious with protein, good fats and the antioxidant vitamin E, they are the ideal food for fitness.
A recent study published in the journal Frontiers in Nutrition suggests that consuming almonds regularly may aid in post-exercise muscle recovery and improve performance. Researchers found that participants who consumed 57 grams of almonds daily experienced a nearly 25% reduction in muscle soreness after a strenuous exercise session compared to those who ate a calorie-matched snack of unsalted pretzels
The control group ate a calorie-matched (86 grammes per three ounces) snack of unsalted pretzels. The treadmill test was designed to cause muscle damage to see how almonds affected muscle recovery.
