When i make the recommendation to the president. one point i would make having seen some of the news reports, the u.s. military does not leave its troops behind. and i would just ask that you not question the actions of the troops that were caught in the fire fight and question whether or not they did everything they could in order to bring everyone out at once. and i would also ask you dont confuse your need for accurate information with our ability to provide it immediately in a situation like...

Totally inadequate. i was just trying to tumble out words to express appreciation on behalf of a grateful nation for his service and sacrifice, and she was consumed in grief, as you would expect. very subdued and somber. you know, it recalled for me back many, many years when i served as a military officer, and one of the toughest duties when you have to be the notification officer to the next of kin of those killed, and thats a sobering experience. and it was yesterday, as well, for me to call ...

Can achieve. you can imagine the pride with which fredricka wilson has of seeing so many of these young men make something of themselves, and in particular, in this case, of sergeant johnson having served his country as he was in a very elite unit. so thats the comment i would make about the congresswoman, fredricka wilson. >> you know, senator, you said just yesterday along with a growing number of your members of congress that this needs to be investigated. i wonder if the sergeants widow, mrs...

Heartbreaking situation. none of us were on that phone call. we werent privy to what was discussed. lets give the president the benefit of the doubt. lets say this was heartfelt, that in his own words, what he was trying to express, that sergeant la david johnson knew that he was putting his life at risk, but to defend this country, he went off to fight and enlist. its not so much the presidents initial actions but its his reactions. that always cause these kind of problems. i mean, from watchin...

White house press office, and theres a scheduled 2:00 p.m. news conference, and hopefully we will get more. the president will be with the finance committee, and that will be an opportunity. look, this is a painful conversation about what is appropriate for the president to say and what is not and what is empathetic and what is not when speaking to family members of fallen service members, and its edged on by the congresswoman you heard there, and she said she was present -- thats important, and...

Just an absolute disgrace and just as disgusting. so now great. were back where we always are with these things where both sides are culpable. the president kind of started and now a democrat is going to try to make partisan football out of it. >> im going cut you off. i want to get symone in. >> this is the onus on donald trump here. what donald trump allegedly said to the widow of sergeant johnson is despicable. its disgusting. and we should all be disgusted. >> we dont know the context. >> we...

Father came on and said thats not true. obama was compassionate. he doesnt understand why this president uses this as a deflection when its not true. >> look, i agree actually with what a lot of bakari said. and this whole topic kind of makes me sick to my stomach to be lawnest with you. im sick to my stomach. for us to be having this discussion is terrible. i think the president brought this on, of course, but this representative calling in and relying the conversation between the president and...

Has to come clean. he suggested he might invoke executive privilege as a reason for not answers questions, and we will see if he answers questions today. i want to get your take on the controversy surrounding the phone call to the willow of sergeant johnson. >> i spent a little time yesterday looking at stars and stripes and the coverage from the local newspaper. this is a guy, 2-year-old and a 6-year-old, another baby on the way. he was a hero and gave his life for our country, and the presiden...
