Since joining FCNL a month ago, I’ve been blown away by the dedication of our lobbyists and advocates who are working to build the world that we seek. Our experts are willing to get into the weeds to push for the policies we need, while our advocates are tireless in lobbying Congress for important legislation. With the recent passage of a major funding deal, I wanted to give you an update on some of the issues that we have been working on.

Reno artist Nate Clark’s paintings are featured at the Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery through March 11, with a reception and artist talk set for 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19. Clark’s discussion begins at 6:15. The reception is free and open to the public.

Congress passed a long-awaited spending package that includes money for more Border Patrol agents, ICE operations and FEMA’s Shelter and Services Program. If there’s one thing all of Arizona’s four border counties can all agree on, it’s that managing the border is a federal responsibility that needs federal money. Pima County said it will continue operations to provide aid for migrants released in southern Arizona past March 31.

Arizona leaders are urging federal officials to make sure the state gets its fair share of $650 million in new funding for border services.
