shake map. it s how violent it was that s where you can get significant damage. notice how small that was and the ridgecrest area was included in that. the area from los angeles here, these people felt it even the moderate didn t encompass any other cities. always look at the depth of the earthquake. this was at 6.6 miles deep. the nor energy released toward the surface the more damage that could happen. we call it anything from three mile toward the surface. this was in the moderate range. some of the energy did make it all the way to the surface. you could see it was actually cracked and that was about the worst of it. and as far as the after shocks go, we had 16 after shocks go greater than 4.0.

highways and roads and people stuck in towns, this is incredibly devastating. it is not the independence day ridgecrest was hoping for and all the families, firefighters, first responders, law enforcement, just the inspection process alone for all the homes and businesses could take a week or more. 30,000 residents in ridgecrest. now, we re working to confirm a couple of minor details. we received an e-mail from the usgs instead of a 5 mile depth they make cut it. to cut it to 2 1/2 miles that would create more energy outward in the region. the other factor we re working on they may move the epicenter 6 miles. we went through the shake map again. again, right around 30,000 people, i mean you ve got 42,000 felt very strong shaking. that is the category there are higher categories but that s
been a lot of concern up in california on this swarms, these dreamtors that have been taking place, and in many cases around the world, we re on the ring of fire, that can t happened. so let s back up and review. a 6.4 at 10:33. at that s the foreshock. if we see a quake develop stronger, that will being the original quake. but we re seeing which means the wave activity was able to travel farce, because it wasn t so deep into the earth. this is a shake map. very strong shaking, 42,000, that s ridgecrest.
since 5 after 10:00 there have been three smaller after shocks. now, that s typical. if we have something that shakes a little bit shocker that s a 6.4 that ll be considered tquak. in the last few weeks there s been a lot of interest in kind of swarm of smaller tremors that have been happening in california, and it s kind of sparked the interest on many seismologis seismologists wondering, hey, is something going to happen? are we going to see a larger release of energy? is this it, the 6.4? the usgs will provide us with a couple of graphs and show us a shake map, how many moderate, strong, very strong or violent.
