The annual Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk Chili Cook-Off will be held Saturday. Tasting kits go on sale at 10 a.m. and tasting begins at 1 p.m. For $12, you get samples from six of the booths plus a People’s Choice ballot. Two types of chili will be offered: Red (con carne) and Vegetarian.

Come get your hands dirty, your heart happy, and your mind clear from 11 a.m. to noon every Thursday at Common Roots Farm, 301 Golf Club Drive, Santa Cruz. At Shared Adventures, people get outdoors and move beyond their limitations.

Registration is open until Oct. 20 for teams to enter the annual Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk Chili Cook-Off, which takes place Oct. 28. Cash prizes will be awarded for Best Chili (amateur and professional), People’s Choice, Most Tasted, and Best Theme. Two chili types are eligible: ones with meat, and vegetarian.

"It's such a water-based county and for a lot of our people with disabilities, having access to these water programs is either difficult or sometimes even improbable," said David Molina, chair of the county's Commission on Disabilities. "I can't tell you how much it helps."
